Over the last couple of months, we have been hard at work creating a whole new camera for Camera Vault. The new camera will, we hope, be a vast improvement over the existing camera currently in use. Features will include the normal ones, like taking multiple images, setting the timer, and zooming, but will have other interface improvements that will boost its usability and eye appeal.

When will this come out? That’s hard to say right now, but we are at last coming near to completing this new camera. We hope you enjoy it when it arrives, but, as always, feel free to make suggestions or comments!

When creating an iPhone application, Apple lays out very specific rules that must be followed when leveraging its standard user interface software like the image picker currently in Camera Vault. Unfortunately, trying to augment or improve this software can cause an iPhone application, such as Camera Vault’s latest update, to be disapproved despite how effective those improvements are. Sadly, such is the case with our Multiple Image Import feature.

After two attempts to improve the standard image picking interface to allow Multiple Image Import in an intuitive and user-friendly way, Apple has stated that we are forbidden to release such an upgrade as it violates their standards. This does not necessarily mean it is impossible to implement a Multiple Image Import feature, just that the result will not be as user-friendly as it could have been.

Nonetheless, development continues, and we hope to have this all sorted out very soon so we can move on to other important features that will improve Camera Vault.

We hit a slight snag over Camera Vault’s new multiple image import feature. This feature was designed to help users import more than one image from the Standard Photo Library at a time; however, Apple did not approve of our approach and sent us back to the drawing boards. While this feature may take a slightly longer time to materialize as an update, we are confident that we will be able to find a way through Apple’s review process.

A new version of Camera Vault, version 2.5, has been packaged up and should soon be available to users as an upgrade. In this version include a few bug fixes and a few tweaks, but more importantly it includes enhancements to the Import action that allow Multiple Images to be imported at once from the Standard Library!

How do you use this new ability to your advantage? Easy! Start by importing images as you’ve always done, but you’ll probably notice right away that things look different.

Along the bottom of the Import view, you’ll see a new toolbar. This toolbar will hold thumbnails of the images you select to import. Import as many images as you want, and when you’re done, tap the ‘Done’ button in the top left to start importing. Don’t worry if you accidentally choose an image you don’t want. You can just tap on the thumbnail and hit the ‘Remove’ button.

– Enjoy the new features!

Have ideas or suggestions? Feel free to shoot us an email!

There will soon be a minor update for Camera Vault that will resolve some user interface display issues and fine-tune a few other processes. Look for it to be on the App Store as an update soon!

What are we working on behind all the smoke and mirrors? Multiple image import, a whole new camera, and a new geo-view, among other things. How soon can we roll these new features out? Sadly, I don’t know quite yet, but we’re optimistic it will be before next year! (That’s a joke.)

Thanks for everyone’s support!

As users may by now know, the 2.0 version of Camera Vault has been released as an upgrade. This is a big update from the last version with the main goal of supporting folders and image organization.

With Camera Vault 2.0, users can create and delete folders from a new screen dedicated to managing folders. Adding a folder from this new screen is simple: simply press the “+” button in the top right of the screen. Each folder defaults as a private folder, but individual folders can be made public by adjusting a switch visible while in edit mode. If a passcode is set, only the public folders can be opened unless the passcode has been entered. However, if all folders are marked as private, Camera Vault works as it always has and prompts users immediately to enter the passcode.

Once folders are created, images can be added to them by importing directly into them, by taking pictures while in a folder, or by using the “Move” action added to the top of the actions list. This “Move” action allows users to select multiple images and move them to a new folder.

Have any suggestions or comments on this new feature? Please let us know at jclmsoftware.llc AT gmail.com!

If you’ve been checking this page for updates on Camera Vault updates, rest assured that we have not been idle in our silence. For the past week, give or take a few days, we’ve been working hard to add — wait for it — folders to Camera Vault! As our number one requested feature, we thought it important to make it our number one priority, and Camera Vault 2.0 will be the culmination of that effort.

What does this mean for Camera Vault? First, there will be a number of large visual changes, as the interface had to be redesigned in areas to incorporate the folders approach to organizing images. Hopefully this change won’t be too upsetting for users who like Camera Vault the way it is, and we hope the interface is intuitive and easy to use. Second, users will be able to create, organize, and individually secure folders, with a level of flexibility aimed to suit all users’ needs. We’ve been tinkering and testing and revising all week, and this weekend we aim to send an update to Apple that we can be proud of.

Stay tuned for more information about folders and how you can make use of them to improve your own Camera Vault experience!

Starting today, users can upgrade to the 1.5 release of Camera Vault! Apple finally let the release through their review process so that it can start resolved user’s issues. We’ve tried hard to make this a great release, but please let us know if you see any issues, new or old, as we strive to fix everything our users let us know about.

As a reminder, this release includes a bug fix for the symbols passcode issue. In particular, if Camera Vault has a passcode with symbols and no security questions, users will be allowed to reset their password via a new email system. We recommend users having this problem upgrade and reset their passcodes immediately, along with sending us a personal email, in order to reset the passcode as quickly as possible. This feature will not last forever!

Thanks to everyone’s support and we hope to appease the critics of our last version with this, our best version yet!

In the last post, we mentioned what kinds of fixes and features would be in the next release, but we didn’t give an estimate of when that update would be available. Well, as of late Friday evening, we can happily say that Apple has, in their hands, the next update to Camera Vault!

Now, this unfortunately doesn’t mean it will be available today or tomorrow, but it will likely be available by the end of this week, if not sooner. Once Apple reviews our new version of the application, they will release it to our users as an upgrade, so if you’ve been having any issues, please watch the App Store for the pending release.

Thanks to all of our users who have sent us suggestions or issues. This is the show of support we small developers feed off of, and it helps us determine how best to proceed with the development of Camera Vault. Do you have a suggestion or issue? Feel free to send us an email at jclmsoftware.llc AT gmail.com.

Fixes:

The next version of Camera Vault will address a number of issues, including general fixes, the inability to import certain types of images, and the allowance of symbols in the passcode.

As a note, if an unsupported image is imported into Camera Vault, it will appear like a blank image and you will not be able to view it. These images will never render correctly, even after we fix the issue, so you will need to delete them.

Regarding the symbols being allowed in the passcode, be aware that doing this will lock you out of Camera Vault without being able to get back in. We recommend that all users setting a passcode also choose at least one security question so that they have a means with which to reset the passcode.

We apologize for these issues and the inconveniences they have caused, but understand that we are working hard to resolve them as quickly as possible.

Features:

This next version of Camera Vault will include a new, better looking icon. At least we think it looks better, and we hope you do too.

There will also be support for viewing geotagging information. While taking images with the built-in camera has been saving the location of images, the new feature will allow you to view the location of these taken images via Google maps. Access this new feature from the full-image view’s toolbar.

Also added to the full-image view’s toolbar is the ability to access export options for a single image. Now you do not have to exit the full-image view to send an image via email, twitter, or facebook!

Other improvements are more obscure, but trust us when we say they chisel away at making the entire app better bit by bit.

As always, thanks for everyone’s support, and please report any issues whenever you can!
